This month’s Sussex Sustainable Travel Star is Olivia, a first-year Psychology undergraduate, who has recently joined EcoGo and has been enjoying the rewards during 2023 so far.
“I'm still new to EcoGo, I started properly using it in January. I first heard about it through an advertisement in the library and I thought the idea was ingenious. The ability to earn points and rewards for walking, something which I enjoy already, seemed perfect.
Since starting out with EcoGo, I'm more active than ever, as I've found more joy in getting outdoors and exploring the nature around me through local walks. My favourite place that I've discovered through using the BetterPoints app is definitely Stanmer Park and the surrounding woodlands, which are absolutely lovely for a walk in the morning.
Before coming to university, I depended mainly on public transport and walking, with occasional access to my parent's car. However, before coming to uni I felt scared about getting around in an unfamiliar place, as I'm new to the area.
Now I feel very confident about getting around Brighton & Hove which has been helpful for my job. I'm a Support Worker for the Grace Eyre Foundation, which involves helping people with learning disabilities become more active members of the community. It requires lots of travelling as there are service users across Brighton & Hove.
What I really like about BetterPoints is how many options there are to exchange points for, and especially the ones relating to services provided at the University of Sussex. That’s why the points I've collected so far have been spent on a reduced SussexSport gym membership, which I have thoroughly enjoyed! As well as spending points, I think it's also pretty neat that you can donate them to charities.”
